2012 SBA Small Business Success Story
Donna & Jon Bratton, Owners
Jedco Transportation LLC
527 East Avenue J
Jerome ID 83338
Donna and Jon Bratton came to the Small Business Development Center in August of 2011. After a combined 40 years in the trucking industry, they made the decision to become trucking business owners. The Brattons’ extensive amount of trucking experience has been invaluable as they planned for the success of their business; they have utilized their insight into the dispatching, scheduling, bookkeeping, mechanics and driving to inform each of their business decisions. They are focused on success as they grow their business, Jedco LLC.
Prior to opening Jedco LLC, Donna asked the center for assistance writing an employee handbook. The handbook contains 100% of the policies, payroll dates, time and travel reimbursements and requirements for all personnel working for Jedco LLC. The handbook insures that all the employees understand what is expected of them.
The Brattons are hardworking Idahoans who now own a part of the American dream. They are lifelong learners, consistently searching for ways to sharpen their skills. Donna has attended business boot camp, the Women’s Business & Career Conference and Safety & Business Fest in addition to bookkeeping and tax counseling sessions. She often explains to SBDC staff “I want to understand the why as much as the how because in order to learn I need to know the rationale behind the process” hence the tax, bookkeeping consultations. Owning a business is hard work so the Bratton’s look for ways to work smarter not necessarily harder.
The Brattons have set short term and long term goals for Jedco LLC; they have found ways to increase sales and most importantly to keep the trucks on the road. Despite the economic downturn of the past two years, Jedco LLC has flourished. Donna and Jon Bratton represent the best of small business owners. They and people like them, are the reason that business consulting is a dynamic and satisfying job.
Congratulation on your success!
