The College of Southern Idaho is a student-centered institution designed to provide a complete educational experience for all students. The goal of the college safety staff is to assist in that process to make certain that the campus is a safe and orderly environment. To this end, the department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached at all times by telephone. In the event of an emergency, our on-campus extension is 6605. The CSI Safety Office is located in the Maintenance Building just north of the dormitory on the campus loop road.

The college campus is considered a pedestrian campus; therefore, people on foot always have the right of way and vehicle traffic is expected to yield. For the sake of pedestrian safety, we have established campus driving regulations that are more restrictive than those for the public city streets. Driving regulations are published, widely circulated, and strictly enforced. The maximum speed limit on campus is 20 miles per hour. CSI employees and their passengers are directed to wear seat belts in all seating positions while driving or riding in college-owned vehicles if that vehicle is so equipped with safety restraints. Employees and students are highly encouraged to use seat belts while operating their personal vehicles, whether for college or personal use, to enhance safety for themselves and their passengers.

The Safety Department patrols the campus and checks all buildings on a regular basis. Felonies and serious crimes are reported to the appropriate police agency by the safety staff. We request that students, employees, and visitors report all crimes and accidents that occur on the CSI campus or property to the Safety Department.

CSI Public Safety has published an all-inclusive multi-hazard Emergency Procedures Manual that should be available in all offices and classrooms on campus. It contains procedures that should be followed for almost any type of emergency situation that may occur. A link to this manual can be found on the left. This manual also has a new section dealing with Active Shooter situations. A link to an informative video on how to prepare for such an event can also be found along the left margin.

CSI Safety officers do not carry firearms and have limited police powers. CSI published a revised weapons policy effective July 1, 2014. Details of this policy may be found on the links in the left margin.
