Course Description

EDUC 211 PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS*

This course will address the value of physical activity and fitness for elementary children and the teaching skills and techniques that encourage successful movement for all children. Students will learn how to integrate physical activity with other academic subject areas. The course requires 10 hours of field work in an approved educational setting.
 

Purpose of the Course:   Experiential Learning Theory

This course requires all Physical Education K-12 Majors and Elementary Education Majors to submit a copy of each lesson plan, each teacher evaluation, and an instructor evaluation. The course is provided for the ISU program requirements; it is not required for CSI graduation. Each lesson and evaluation should be no longer than an hour each time, approximately 8 hours total. The lessons can be 15–20-minute lessons, leaving time for communication with the cooperating teacher.

·         Mandatory on-canvas session three times a week for full assignment points.

·         Mandatory on-line Discussion homework for peer “Connectivity”, relationship

           building, & networking.

·         Collaboration with peers (Lev Vygotsky social learning “theory into practice”).

 

PREREQUISITE

  • Students are required to complete and pass a background check.

Assessment

Learning Outcome 1: Students will understand the value of physical education as a vital part of a wellness model in an elementary curriculum.

 

Learning Outcome 2: Students will demonstrate effective planning formats for writing lesson plans for age-appropriate games, fitness activities, health concepts, and integration of activity into other subject areas.

 

Learning Outcome 3: Students will effectively design, plan, and implement a wellness plan or teach enjoyable, creative, activity lessons in an elementary school setting.
