Background/Personal Information

In 1995 our family moved to Twin Falls from Missouri and built a home in the Meander point subdivision.  My husband Bruce is a CRNA and is employed at the Riverview Opthalmology center.  He and I enjoy family vacations and golfing together.

We have loved the community and the wonderful support many individuals have offered my family.  My family is changing every year. My oldest daughter is Desarae and she married Nathan Fowler.  They are residents in Kimberly.  She runs the https://ohsodelicioso.com/ site and Nate is a Lawyer at Echelon Law.  Aubrey married Brandon Nielsen and she is a Nurse and assists Brandon with his Pediatric Optomitrist Practice, Children's Clear vision.  Brock married Lauren Smith and he is practicing medical Doctor in Indiana.  Andrew married Marissa this year and is close to completed his Medical residency in Boise.  Connor and has graduated from Weber State University in microbiology and is now attending the University of Indiana Dental School.   

I am a Proud grandmother of 5 beautiful grand daughters and 9 grandsons.  

I love service in the Dental Clinic and in the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, and I enjoy many sports and educational oppurtunities. 

Teaching Philosophy

My Personal Philosphy and in education is:

· Create learning environments that are enjoyable for facilitator and students alike where life-long learning is celebrated as a core competency.

· Meet students where they are. Recognizing individual learning styles and barriers to learning.

· Develop and maintain a safe learning environment based on integrity, trust, and respect among facilitator and students where curiosity, reasoning, and creativity are encouraged.

· Provide a learner-center environments that foster the development and practice of leadership values and skills that embrace respect for diverse populations.

· Guide students to become socially, civically, and personally responsible professionals, employees, and citizens.

· Introduce and apply the principles of critical and systems thinking, collaborative/team problem-based learning preparing students to be productive, precise professionals and leaders.

· Assist students in understanding and accepting the role that the educational process plays in the growth of the dental hygiene profession, the importance of professional development and growth, and the need for research which adds to the professional body of knowledge.

· Incorporate the use of technology and various teaching methodologies as deemed appropriate in all levels and areas of course instruction; realizing technology as an adjunct rather than a replacement to pedagogy.

· Provide an environment that promotes active student learning as well as student recognition that moves the student to reach their full potential by building on strengths using reflection as a means to reach it.

· Introduce and utilize the principles of critical thinking, collaborative/team/ problem-based learning.

· Incorporate the use of various teaching methodologies, fair assessment, and the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy as deemed appropriate in all levels and areas of course instruction.

· Assist my students in understanding the role the educational process plays in the growth of the profession, the importance of life-long learning, and the need for the increase in research to add to the dental hygiene body of knowledge.

· Provide an environment that promotes student learning as well as student recognition and desire to reach their full potential by building on their strengths and using reflection as a means to reach it.

· Seek out opportunities to teach the Dental Hygiene process of care at all levels as well as recognize teaching moments within the course of each day.

· Seek opportunities to integrate concepts and clear examples of ethics, professionalism and most important, Service.

· Willingly share, support, and teach other faculty members to the best of my ability.
